Client Need

The client purchased an older post-and-beam midcentury home in La Jolla that had seen better days. While the home was in poor repair, it contained some iconic 1960s elements, and featured classic midcentury lines. The client challenged us to completely upgrade the residence, without losing the unique features and feel of the home.

Our Solution

We completely upgraded the home, adding new hardwood floors, new windows and a custom sound system and fireplace, as well as installing new lighting, bathrooms, HVAC and installation. We worked around the 1960s design aesthetic, adding finishes that are contemporary, but that synchronize well with the overall midcentury feel of the property.

The home is a classic midcentury design.
GDC maintained the classic custom rock fireplace, while replacing the flooring in the main living area.
The interior and furnishings mimic the overall midcentury aesthetic.
Large new modern windows make the best of the stunning La Jolla views.
The master bathroom is modern, yet classic, with a floating cabinet and retro-style tiles.
